Privacy policy
ClearCart Privacy Policy
How ClearCart uses information, device features and third-party services.
Effective date: 26 August 2026
This policy is written conservatively from the application's current implementation. It should be reviewed whenever the app's services or permissions change.
Information used by ClearCart
ClearCart sends barcode numbers, product search terms or ingredient text to its application service when you ask it to look up or analyse a product. The service uses its own product records and may retrieve or search product information from Open Food Facts. Product results may be cached by the service.
Camera and barcode scanning
On supported native devices, ClearCart requests camera access when you choose to scan a barcode. The scanner returns the detected barcode number to the app for a product lookup. The current implementation does not upload the barcode camera view as part of an ordinary scan.
Product submissions and evidence
If you choose to submit a new product or correction, ClearCart sends the details you enter to its backend for moderation. You may optionally attach a JPEG, PNG or WebP label photo. Submitted details and any attached evidence are stored in private persistent application storage for review. Do not include people, addresses or other unrelated personal information in label photos or notes.
Local data and preferences
The app stores preferences, product history and membership-related state locally on your device. This helps preserve your settings and recent activity between sessions.
Third-party services
Open Food Facts may receive a barcode or product search request when ClearCart supplements its own data. Your network provider and the service operator may process technical request information needed to deliver the service.
Analytics and advertising
The reviewed implementation does not show an analytics or advertising integration. This statement must be revisited before release if either is added.
Your choices
You can choose whether to grant optional device permissions, adjust device-level permissions later and stop using the app. Where an app stores preferences locally, removing the app may remove that local data.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through an Apped service, please contact us.
Data retention
Information is kept only for as long as needed for the purpose described, to operate and protect the service, or to meet legal obligations. Retention by third-party services is governed by their own policies.
Contact and changes
